My Presentation
So I was thinking about what I was going to say when we go before the A&P Committee this Tuesday. I feel like we can't keep saying the same old thing to them. Ok so we know that this event has to prove that it can bring money to the city. Here is what is awkward and real. It has not brought money to the local businesses only because when this event occurs the businesses themselves are not creating sales or events to cater to the crowds before they come to celebrate Juneteenth. I don't think they realise the power of the Black dollar and how much money that we actually spend per anum as a people. Their immediate assumption (white folks) is that we don't have any money. So they appease us with three thousand dollars and we try to stretch that dollar to the hilt to get advertising done.
This year we hope that it will be different. I mean I know I am not alone in this so we decided to do this whole "Queen City Family Reunion" thing where families can register and celebrate their family reunions with us here in Camden rather than go somewhere else they can come here and have fun. If there are enough families that would register well then surely they will need to eat and they will need to buy items for the family and just have souveniers. Talk about money for the city and local businesses.
So I am going in with that in mind and all of what we have worked on to get that started and advertise it to the community.
I'm going to even do one better and make sure that I have my professional self together along with handouts for the committed and extras and a slideshow powerpoint presentation available.
I want them to be floored and outdone and then give us the money that we are asking for.
So lets see what we can do.
Oh and for anyone in Camden that is reading this...we are still looking for volunteers!
Till next time.

The Great Debaters
Well you know we have to do our part! So here is a movie that we MUST MUST MUST see with our children with other folks and with ourselves. Why?
Cause we break our necks to go see movies like American Gangster which by the way I have not gone to see. I'm not sure that I want to see a black men finding ways to destroy his community to make a couple a dollars.
So anyways I was lurking around on You Tube and found this movie on Denzel Washington. You want the truth I was floored cause I didnt know that this movie was new. I thought it was a movie done for PBS!!!! No serious I really did. So you know I had to go and check and see if anyone else was talking about it and yes lo and behold you know my girl is talking about it. Matter of fact she has BEEEEEEEN talking about it on her site What About Our Daughters. You go girl she is on her stuff.
I admit that I am a bit ashamed I am so behind but hey let me help push this movie.
Just check out the trailer and then pass this on to as many people as you can ok?
blog about it lets start this grass roots campaign til we get folks to the theatres in droves to go see this movie!

What About Our Daughters: NBC to do Week-long Series on Black Women - Let the Gnashing of the Teeth Begin!#links
Alright ya'll this site is just not going to be about my little crew here in Camden, Arkansas getting ready for Juneteenth, it's going to be about current topics that concern us as a people.
I found this link on What About Our Daughters blogsite and I felt it my duty to make sure that this was posted here for us to take a look at as well.
We need to make sure that we pass this along to others and get the word out about how the press is getting ready to make us as black women feel like we are not living up to snuff.

A&P Meeting This Tuesday
Well we are about four or five days away from the meeting with the city of Camden Arkansas' A&P Committee to request advertising funds for next years Juneteenth. I am preparing the paperwork that I want to pass out at the meeting but I could really use some help.
You know sometimes I ask myself why do I keep doing it? This is my third year doing it and I think its getting better if we could only get more participation for the event.
I am really sad about it beacuse we always run around at the last minute and try to make it happen. So this year we have been meeting literally since Juneteenth ended this year and have only had three people at each meeting. Yet each year we complain about how horrible the Juneteenth Celebration is.
I hope that this year is different.
Well I will post later and let you all know how the meeting went and lets see if they will give usthe advertising budget that we are asking for.
till then
Peace

Getting Ready
Alright so I am back at it again with a post about my journey to Juneteenth 2008 in my little place I am calling home right now!
I think this is going to be one of the best years we have had since I have been aboard which its only been year three.
I keep saying I'm not going to do it again but the challenge is what keeps me coming back over and again.
Follow me and you know what? This is not the only thing that will discuss. Juneteenth is not just about celebrating African American history in this country but about the African Diaspora and what we are all dealing with in this.
Sit back and have a sip of coffee or water or tea and watch me make a fool of myself with others as we get ready for the next event.
