So I've been thinking long and hard on this. Maybe I can't get these people in this tiny little town to get it together to have successful events.
But the one thing that I will not do again is spend hours and hours per week voluntarily like my behind is on probation and I am being forced to do do Juneteenth fulltime of go back to jail.
Now I know what some of you are going to say "Come on girl you can do it. Keep the history going and keep it alive."
Well one this is for sure how much history are some annual Juneteenth celebrations doing anyways? Really. We tried my little team of three or four people tried to give the history and do some of the traditional things that Juneteenth is known for. While larger cities would hold huge concerts and charge 20- 25 dollars for tickets to the event.
And what was sad was some of the artists would be people like Hurricane Chris, Lil Boosie, Akon all the people that we are listening to today and now. Ok well every once in a while I like to dance to Hand Clap. I don't even know who Lil Boosie. Haha for that. But some of these artists are known for their disdain and disrespect for Black Women....and they are always about the dollar.
So I'm trying to see the correlation to them and an event on independence. Maybe this year I will find out because we are planning on communicating with some to make money this year since we can't get the scholarship amount up for our students we have got to do something.
Mmmmm. Well we will see.
